Six members of staff at Larcomes are joining forces with the Pompey in the Community (PITC) team to complete a bike ride that involves cycling 80 miles from Fratton Park to AFC Wimbledon’s ground on 13th October, just in time for kick off. PITC is the charitable arm of Portsmouth Football Club and its ethos is to promote education, healthy living and sporting participation amongst people of all ages.

Team Larcomes’ aim is to raise awareness for the “Wheels for All” project, provided by PITC which enables wheelchair users of all ages, including the elderly at risk of isolation, the opportunity to access community bikes through specially adapted equipment. This project was originally funded by the local authority but sadly due to cutbacks, the financial support was withdrawn. PITC stepped in and this is just one of the many opportunities afforded to residents all over the city.

This project is integral to those Portsmouth residents with specific needs, most of who would be unable to access and enjoy the adapted bikes. During our 80 mile bike ride, we will be riding these cycles whilst carrying some of the participants of the Wheels for All programme. We will experience first hand the difference this inclusive project can make to lives, whilst highlighting the continuing need to raise funds to ensure its survival and vital contribution to our city.

Larcomes as one of the oldest law firms in Portsmouth has over the years held numerous fundraising events to make a positive difference in our area. We consider that the Wheels for All project creates more than just an opportunity for local residents but highlights a community spirit which is key to the success of any charitable led project.

This collaborative approach has only one goal in mind and that is to raise as much money as possible to ensure that this project and its wonderful volunteers continue to offer a tailored programme of cycling that is accessible to all.
