High Net Worth Divorce

There is no strict definition of what exactly constitutes as a high net worth (HNW) divorce case. However, it is worth noting that if someone is a high-earner (typically earning more than £200,000 per year) or where there are significant financial assets of marriage such as properties, businesses, pensions, land and other investments which amount to more than £1million then this can amount to a HNW divorce matter.

High net worth divorces include cases where the financial assets available to be distributed by the court exceed the parties’ financial needs. Family courts and the Central Family Court deal with all financial cases, including high net worth cases.

At Larcomes, we have considerable experience in all areas of family law, including separation and divorce, child matters and matrimonial finances, and in cases of complex assets and those involving high net worth individuals.

For a free, no obligation and confidential discussion, speak to one of our divorce and separation lawyers. Please call Sandra Philips on 023 9244 8107 for our Portsmouth office or Adrian Silk on 023 9244 8106 for our Waterlooville office or make an online enquiry.

High Net Worth Divorce Solicitors

Our specialist family solicitors can advise you on all high net worth divorce and separation matters including:

  • The divorce process.
  • Separation.
  • Financial matters.
  • Child matters.
  • Pensions.
  • Business assets.
  • High value and overseas property.

In cases of significant wealth, such as in matters where the overall net assets amount to more than £15 million those matters might be allocated to the High Court, London. Due to our high level of expertise and longstanding experience, we can also help in these cases and work with leading London barristers’ chambers to protect your position in these situations.

The valuation of assets in high-net-worth cases is essential. It will often involve the expert guidance of chartered and forensic accountants, pension actuaries and valuation experts where personal chattels – including cars, jewellery and artwork are involved. We also work with tax specialists to assess the impact of any financial settlement on your case.

We also understand that it is possible that in an HNW situation, there may be a prenuptial or postnuptial agreement, and our specialist family law solicitors will evaluate the agreement’s validity.

Wealth Protection – Prenuptial and Postnuptial Agreements

We can advise on pre and postnuptial agreements which are used increasingly in many cases, not only high net worth cases. Whether people have limited or extensive assets –  which they have inherited or built up –  by way of insurance, they often wish to ringfence those assets should the marriage they are entering end in divorce.
