In honour of Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day which was celebrated on 8th March this year, we thought it would be fitting to talk to Lisa Moore, Solicitor and Director of Larcomes Legal Limited, and explore some of her female heroes.
Who were your female heroes growing up?
Apart from my mum of course, who always worked extremely hard as me and my brother were growing up, she sacrificed a lot to ensure she was able to provide for us and she always strove for independence and showed me that to be independent was extremely important.
When I was growing up, I always remember visiting the Body Shop Factory (as it was then!) in West Sussex, watching the cosmetics being made and bottled. Anita Roddick, the founder of The Body Shop always inspired me. She successfully founded a company which transformed the cosmetics industry into a more ethically responsible industry and although she died an untimely death, The Body Shop is still a success today, and her memory lives on.
What influenced you to become a Solicitor?
What influenced me to become a solicitor? I always enjoyed studying and found the ‘black and white’ case law very interesting when I chose to study Law. I viewed the Legal Industry as a challenging but rewarding career path to take. I’m very much a ‘people person’ and enjoy advising my clients (although I have learnt that the law is rarely black and white!)
What do you like most about working in the legal industry?
I enjoy meeting different people and no day is ever the same. I learn new things in my job all the time.
What piece of advice would you give to a young student considering a career in law?
I would advise anyone considering Law as a career, to try and gain as much experience as possible, as soon as possible. A career in Law requires commitment and competition is high. There are various routes available to qualify as a Solicitor, so choose the one that is right for them.
