Today the rise in Court Fees in civil claims was implemented by the government. This new fee regime sees an increase of over 600% to Court fees in certain civil actions. For example, if your civil claim is worth £40,000, previously you would have paid a court issue fee of £610, whereas under the new fee regime, you will now have to pay a court issue fee of £2000. If for example your claim is worth £90,000 you would previously have paid a court issue fee of £910 whereas now the fee will be £4500! We are very concerned about these fee increases and believe it will make it increasingly difficult (if not impossible) for many individuals and small businesses to bring cases to court, this prohibits people having proper access to justice and creates a system that is only accessible to those with enough money to use it.
