Larcomes LLP Solicitors are pleased to be able to support the Hampshire Asbestos Support and Awareness group in this year's event.

Mesothelioma is a cancer that is caused by exposure to asbestos.

Action Mesothelioma Day is marked annually to raise awareness of the dangers of asbestos exposure, to highlight the plight of those suffering from the disease, to remember those who have lost their lives to it and to raise money towards much needed mesothelioma research.

This year’s event focuses on the issue that mesothelioma can be caused by low level exposure to asbestos and that asbestos may be present in many public buildings and schools.

Asbestos has been used in a variety of industries throughout the UK. Although no longer an available product, the importing of asbestos was not banned in the UK until 1999.

In the UK alone many thousands of people have already lost their lives to mesothelioma, and medical research predicts that as many as 50,000 people could be affected by it over the next 30 years.
